On Virginia’s rural coast, resiliency and Chesapeake Bay conservation goals collide amid sea level rise |

New Mentis founded Serotonin Research Center

New partnership with FourthWall Testing

VANCOUVER, BC, March 31, 2021 / CNW / – Nova Mentis Life Science Corp. (CSE: NOVA) (FSE: HN3Q) (OTCQB: NMLSF) (“NOVA” or the “Company”), a biotechnology company and a world leader in premium psilocybin. Therapeutics and Complementary Diagnostics for Neuroinflammatory Diseases, is pleased to announce that they are establishing a Serotonin Research Center in collaboration with FourthWall Testing Conservatory, Florida.

Fresh Life Sciences Corp. (CNW Group / Fresh Life Sciences Corp.)

NOVA’s neuroinflammatory research program is based on the identification of biomarkers that can be used to confirm the therapeutic efficacy of its proprietary psilocybin-based drug portfolio.

NOVA intends to establish a longitudinal database to support large-scale studies of the microbiome, its relationship to serotonin activity, and behavior metrics related to Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). A first focus will be an observational study on people diagnosed with ASD and fragile X syndrome (FXS).

The company recently announced that its proprietary psilocybin drug can modulate fear-like behavior in a valproic acid (VPA) rat autism model. This experiment was carried out in collaboration with the laboratory of Dr. Viviana Trezza, Roma Tre University, Rome, Italy.

“It is NOVA’s intention to identify specific microbes that can contribute to the development of ASD,” stated Marvin S. Hausman MD, Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of NOVA. “What’s also most interesting is that 95 percent of the body’s own serotonin is produced by both intestinal cells and bacteria in the human intestine. Only 5 percent is produced in the brain. Serotonin is a key hormone that makes brain cells and other cells possible.” Cells of the nervous system to communicate with each other. Our newly opened Serotonin Research Center, as well as our research partnerships with Microbiome Insights and Thermo Fisher Scientific, give us the opportunity to discover potential biological activities that will lead to the development of ASD and give us the necessary grip to assess the treatment response of autistic children. “

The story goes on

The gut-brain axis is becoming a major topic of discussion at neuroscientific meetings, and recent publications have shown that the trillions of bacteria in the gut could have profound effects on the brain1,2. Studies in mice suggest that infection during pregnancy can stimulate immune cells to produce molecules that travel to the fetus’s brain and induce autism-like behavior3.

There is communication between the enteric (bowel / bowel) nervous system (ENS) and the brain. Dysfunction of the ENS is associated with swallowing problems, excess saliva, mild diarrhea, intestinal obstruction, and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). ASD and Parkinson’s (PD) are two neurological disorders with signs of ENS involvement, as both are associated with gastrointestinal (bowel) symptoms at the onset of the disease.

A better understanding of ENS involvement in these intestinal and neuroinflammatory diseases could lead to early detection, suggest possible interventions, and be a biological marker of successful treatment response.

The NOVA research center will be able to determine quantitative levels of serotonin in stool, blood and urine samples. Samples from the recently completed VPA rat ASD study in Dr. Trezza are sent to the research center. Stool samples were collected from pregnant rats before and after exposure to VPA and from autistic offspring before and after treatment with psilocybin. The research goal is to develop a deep learning analytical computer program that will analyze the data and identify specific developmental subsets of ASD that may be treated with psilocybin therapy.

“By collecting a large amount of shotgun sequencing data, as well as data on a neurotransmitter believed to be implicated in the etiology of a poorly understood disease like ASD, we can develop new methods of exploring the relationship between the microbiota community to understand serotonin levels and disease severity, “said Dr. Kyle H. Ambert, who is Director of Data Science at Nike, Inc. and a member of NOVA’s Scientific Advisory Board.

The Serotonin Research Center also intends to analyze stool, urine and blood samples from ASD and FXS individuals in The United States and Canada. A clinical study approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) has been initiated by NOVA. A listing on ClinicalTrials.gov and the formal start of recruitment in the US will begin in the coming days.

NOVA’s research goal is to shed light on the mechanisms underlying the developmental disorder ASD. Measuring serotonin levels along with other biomarkers can also enable families of autistic individuals to assess disease progression and monitor response to therapeutic interventions.

In addition, the company announces that it has terminated the contract dated December 6, 2017 (the “Agreement”) under which the Company will acquire interests (based on certain milestones achieved) in Just Kush Enterprises Ltd (“Just Kush”), as announced on December 7, 2017.

The company and Kush only have agreed to terminate the contract as it contained several essential provisions that can no longer be fulfilled due to a change in the respective legal regulation. In particular, the agreement contained milestones that must be met in order for material consideration to be made between certain parties and certain other obligations, and those milestones were based on the granting of licenses under the revoked regime for access to cannabis for medical purposes and replaced by the Cannabis Act and the Cannabis Ordinance before these licenses were granted.

Under the termination agreement, purchase proceeds and advances paid by the company under the terms of the agreement will be returned or repaid to the company at a later date under a loan agreement and the company will return all shares in the share capital of Kush only to the original shareholders. Kush only returned 1,250,000 shares in the company for redemption. The company has also entered into a loan repayment agreement Kush only for certain funds made available by the company under the expansion loan plan.

Pharrell wants “transparency, honesty and justice” after a cousin is shot dead by the police

Pharrell calls for “transparency, honesty and justice” after his cousin’s death in a police shooting incident.

In a social media post on Instagram, Pharrell revealed that his cousin Donovan was recently killed after a series of shootings in Virginia Beach, USA.

Pharrell wrote: “The loss of these lives is a tremendous tragedy. My cousin Donovon was killed during the shootings.

“He was a bright light and someone who always showed up for others. It is important that my family and the families of the other victims receive the transparency, honesty, and justice they deserve.

“Virginia Beach is the epitome of hope and tenacity, and as a community we will get through this and come out stronger.”

You can see the full post below:

A number of Pharrell artists and staff including The Weeknd, Swiss Beatz, Kenya Barris and others have expressed their condolences in the comments on the post.

As reported in Sky News, 25-year-old Donovon Lynch was shot dead by a police officer in a series of three different “chaotic shootings” in the area last Friday (March 26) in Virgina Beach. Two people, including Lynch, were killed while eight others were injured in another incident.

In a statement, the Virginia Police Beach Department said homicide detectors had interviews with an officer involved in the shooting of Lynch, an officer who witnessed the incident and an “independent witness”.

The statement added that both offers alleged that Lynch was “brandishing a pistol at the time of the shooting” and “recovered from the scene”.

A 28-year-old woman, Deshayla E Harris, died of a gunshot wound in another shooting that night. The police believed she was an innocent bystander.

Eight other people were injured in a separate shooting that took place shortly after 11 p.m. on Friday. All were taken to local hospitals, with conditions ranging from “serious to life-threatening”.

Mr Lynch was shot dead by a police officer in a third incident – which happened when, Sky reports, “officials were investigating the original shootings and shots were fired nearby”.

The case sparked controversy after it became known that the officer who killed Lynch was wearing a body camera, but the police chief said it was not turned on for “reasons unknown”.

The officer who shot Lynch has now been put on administrative leave.

HPD: Fiery, fatal wreckage on Richmond may include street racing

Call Houston Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS if you have any information that could help investigators.

HOUSTON – A fiery crash in southwest Houston closed Richmond Avenue Wednesday morning, and police believe street races may have been involved.

The crash occurred according to information provided by Sgt. Uribe with the Houston Police Department.

Uribe said a BMW was racing west when the driver allegedly gave a red light and then lost control and hit a tree. The impact was so severe that the BMW split into two parts and then caught fire. The driver died on the scene.

A witness told police they saw the BMW spinning another vehicle, possibly a black Dodge Charger or Challenger, just before the accident. The Dodge did not stop after the crash.

Michelle Choi of KHOU 11 reported that as of 5:45 a.m., the area was still cordoned off and treated as a crime scene, and Richmond was closed in both directions west of Hillcroft.

The name of the BMW driver was not published immediately.

Watch: Raw scene video of the fatal crash on Richmond

Sgt. Uribe said the Dodge driver should report before the police track them down. Investigators believe there are high quality surveillance cameras in the area and they may be able to track down the other affected vehicle.

The deadly wreck comes as MPs and police continue cracking down on illegal street racing in the city of Houston and the rest of Harris County.

Call Houston Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS if you have any information that could help investigators.

Manassas Eatery donates all one day sales to charity

MANASSAS, VA – Jersey Mike’s Subs stores in Manassas are among four Northern Virginia locations that donate 100 percent of sales to Powerful Beyond Measure, a Washington, DC-based charity

Powerful Beyond Measure is a charity that, according to its website, is focused on youth and community development. Her development is focused “on creative, academic, professional, civic, social and personal growth through strategic integration of the arts, entertainment, sports and media industries into programming,” the website says.

The effort is part of the Sandwich franchise chain’s Month of Giving, which has raised $ 32 million for local charities since 2011. Jersey Mike’s hopes of breaking his own record and raising more than $ 8 million this year, a press release said.

Jersey Mike’s has been receiving donations to select charities throughout the month. “All sales from all locations” will be donated on Wednesday, the company said. The owners even donate their money to the cause so that every dollar that flows in on Wednesday goes to charity.
Restaurant owners select the charities and identify organizations “that support local neighborhoods and build stronger communities,” the company said.

Here is a list of participating locations in the Manassas region:

  • 7418 Sudley Road Manassas, VA 20109-2616

Some Richmond and Henrico residents eligible for Phase 1c can book their COVID-19 shot

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) – 8News has learned that some Richmond and Henrico residents eligible for Phase 1c COVID-19 vaccine are already able to schedule an appointment to be admitted.

Some can even book an appointment at the Virginia State University CVC location in Chesterfield.

Related coverage: Richmond-Henrico and Chesterfield Health Districts are still in vaccination phase 1b while others are switching to 1c

Virginia Vaccination Coordinator Dr. Danny Avula says this is due to the remaining dates available.

Avula says after inviting all of Phase 1b from Chesterfield and the Crater Health Districts to the VSU site, there were still many dates available.

Health officials can then move to their next tier of eligible pre-registered residents, such as those who are in phase 1c in Chesterfield and Crater.

Avula explains why some Richmond and Henrico residents are able to book appointments in Chesterfield, possibly related to their employment.

Some may qualify as essential workers in Chesterfield or Crater, but happen to live outside of the health districts. He explains that if your job qualifies you, it has to do with your job.

He adds that an older portion of the data has not been geocoded, which means that the search will get pre-registered people by zip code and some neighbors may have received the invitation.

Neither Chesterfield nor Richmond and Henrico Health Districts have announced when they will officially enter Phase 1c, but both believe their goal is to have a vaccine for every adult by May 1, a goal set by President Joe Biden was established.

The equestrian business is suing Fairfax County in a dispute over onerous state regulations

(The Center Square) – An equestrian center is suing Fairfax County over a dispute over whether the center should be recognized as agricultural and therefore exempt from certain regulations.

Senator Chap Petersen, D-Fairfax City, provides the center with legal representation. Petersen chairs the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.

Virginia law prohibits local governments from disrupting agricultural activities on designated agricultural land. However, the county is trying to make the Harmony Hills Equestrian Center subject to the requirements of the city code and normal commercial property requirements as it does not consider the center a working farm.

The center operates a horse riding business on 14 acres in rural Mason Neck. The land is divided into RE zones that allow agricultural uses. Owner Terry Abrams was granted special use permits to operate the company, but is now subject to costly commercial and city regulations.

Some city code regulations would require the company to provide a paved parking lot, ADA bathrooms, and a water fountain. According to a press release, the company would also have to build a barn subject to trade regulations, which would significantly increase the company’s operating costs.

Abrams asked the county to consider the property as agricultural and exempt from the regulations, but the county denied the request last August. She appealed the decision, but it was upheld this month by the Board of Appeal.

The company filed an application with a district court to overturn the district’s decision.
