Court documents give new details on 19-year-old Raheem Cherry, man charged with killing Laura Miles in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – Newly received court documents provide additional information on Raheem Cherry, the 19-year-old man charged with the murder and disappearance of 61-year-old Laura Miles for first degree murder in Chesapeake.

Miles went missing in Chesapeake last Monday. Investigators found her body later that day in the woods behind a YMCA on Taylor Road.

Over the weekend, 19-year-old Raheem Cherry was arrested for murder, robbery, kidnapping and covering up a corpse.

We still don’t know what evidence led the police to arrest Cherry. According to court records, Cherry did not use a firearm.

The court documents state that Cherry moved from Richmond to Chesapeake in March. He started a job at McDonald’s just three days before his arrest.

According to Chris Rollek, the son of Laura Miles, his mother was the safety officer for dredging projects. She lived in New York and was in Chesapeake on a project.

Cherry is currently behind bars without being tied. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for August.
