The split between 2 and 3 pointers was almost even for William Fleming on Wednesday when the Colonels faced rival Franklin County (77-56) from the Blue Ridge District in a junior college boys’ basketball competition at Samuel M. Hawkins-Central High School defeated.

The Colonels (3-0), who came into play after two wins last week against city rivals Patrick Henry, made 15 shots from the bow and 13 from a distance in their 21-point triumph.

In addition, William Fleming converted 8 out of 12 (66.7%) attempts from the free throw line.

Three players ended in double digits for the Colonels; The trio scored 48 points. and six others scored.

William Fleming was leading 20-11 after the first quarter and by 13 points, 38-25, at break after beating the Eagles (0-3) 18-14 in the second verse.

A 23-14 increase in colonels in the third period increased the spread to 22 points, 61-39.

The Eagles separated the Colonels (17-16) in the final seven-minute frame.

FCHS converted 24 field goals, six of which were 3-point goals and 2 of 7 (28.6%) from the free-throw line.

David Kasey led the Eagles with 17 points and Tucker Harvey scored 12 points.

Also rated were Haven Mullins with eight points, Kendal Mattox with six points, Javeraih Holland and Dayevon Shain with four points each, Rylan McGhee with three points and Jaimere Watkins with two points.
