June 4, 1932 – –
March 17, 2021

Susan C. “Susie” Richmond, 88 years old, of The Villages, Florida, died on Wednesday March 17, 2021.
Susan was born in Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., To Col. Joseph Franklin and Mrs. Susan Colborn Richmond.
As a child, Susan lived in Cookeville, Tennessee and Nashville and later in Frostburg. After all, she lived in Cincinnati for many years.
She died of her sister Diana Meehan; and the brothers Joseph Franklin Richmond Jr. and Harry Richmond.
Susie taught English in high schools in Washington, DC and Cincinnati, Ohio, where she was also the director of the Cincinnati Area Teacher Center. She was instrumental in founding the Cincinnati Teachers Union and served as secretary. After her retirement, she drove the RV to Alaska, Labrador and many places in the United States. Susie and Sally moved to Florida in 1997, first to Fort Myers and then to The Villages in 2005, where they never saw a golf course they disliked.
As a lifelong Democrat, Susie took great care of the country and education. She always wanted to hear what others had to say on the subject, especially young people. She was known for her generosity, sense of adventure, and ability to talk to anyone. She also enjoyed discussions about ideas, bridge, meeting friends, and traveling. She was a member of the Rainbow Family & Friends Club and the AAUW.
Her dear companion and wife Sally Gochenaur are among the survivors. She also leaves niece, Diana Bolt, Blythewood, SC; Nephew, Adam Richmond, San Francisco, California; Nieces, Carolyn McCarthy, Phoenix, Arizona and Melissa Richmond, San Francisco; Nadine R. Doefler, San Antonio, Texas; Susan M. Brouse, Cumming, Georgia; nephews Charles Meehan of Hagerstown and Joseph Frank Richmond III of Chandler, Arizona, and Michael Richmond of Sparks, Nevada; and cousin Hill Carlen of Cookeville.

Can Reston support the already planned population?

RESTON, VA – According to the latest Fairfax County’s data, the population of Reston in 2019 was 65,770. If development could take place at the maximum levels already approved by the county planners, Reston’s population would more than double.

“If you maximized the non-residential population and calculated the planned expansion, Reston’s population would be around 130,000,” Walter Alcorn, district director of Hunter Mill, said at a recent news conference. “If you’ve calculated the maximum residential development, it’s actually about 157,000 people.”

The maximum number of buildings was taken from a report prepared by Fairfax County and Reston Association staff.

“We did something that hadn’t been done before for the existing comprehensive plan for Reston,” said Alcorn. “What is the population estimate? In other words, if the current comprehensive plan that is being passed actually expanded, how many people would be in Reston? What would the estimated amount be?”

When Alcorn was sworn in as the Hunter Mill District supervisor in January 2020, his first board matter was to initiate a public participation process to update Fairfax County’s comprehensive plan for Reston.

Alcorn has had one since then Series of task force meetings to review the plan and discuss possible changes. Having an idea of what was already allowed under the current plan has proven to be a useful metric for those considering changes to the plan.

“The task force is first looking at ways to ensure that the planned infrastructure is sufficient to handle this expansion in terms of both resident population and office workers, retail, etc.” Alcorn said.

The task force is also examining the effects of the expansion on its transport components. In addition, Fairfax County Public Schools will provide a briefing on what changes may need to be made to the Reston Comprehensive Plan to ensure there is adequate school capacity.

“We are also looking at areas where plan densities may need to be reduced,” said Alcorn. “For example, the village centers, at least three of them, Hunters Woods, South Lakes and North Point, are currently well-dense in the overall plan. That’s one of the things the task force is looking at. Which is a reasonable number for the foreseeable future for the planned density of these village centers? “

Much of the density in the existing comprehensive plan arises from the reallocation process, which assesses applications for compliance with the plan. In their discussions, the task force is considering a more precise process to get developers to earn density in order to bring them down to the maximum amount allowed in the plan.

“By earnings density, we’re talking about what commitments developers will make to offset their impact,” said Alcorn.

One of the possible obligations to consider is in the area of equity.

“Reston is just the right place to start this discussion in Fairfax County, given the history of Reston and the original principles of Bob Simon,” said Alcorn. “It’s a very interesting discussion about how the new development, the new economic activity that comes with this development, how to connect to underserved communities, communities in the Reston area that have not had the opportunity to take full advantage of it . ” the prosperity that comes with the new development. “

These commitments, which would be made during the construction process and beyond, could take the form of vocational training to alleviate bottlenecks in many technical areas and provide other forms of assistance in solving equity problems.

The global pandemic continues to determine how we act as a society, rebuild our economy and define our quality of life.

Since taking office, President Biden has increased vaccine supplies across the country. In Virginia we are continuing a very aggressive gunfire campaign in every corner of the Commonwealth. The efforts were methodical and followed CDC guidelines with strategic coordination of delivery and distribution. Just over 16 percent of Virginians are now fully vaccinated. In addition, well over 2 million other Virginians have received their first dose of vaccine. The aim is to resume a more familiar lifestyle in the next few months. This is clearly achievable.

I’m happy to announce that most of the residents of the 35th Senate District have eagerly signed up for the Covid-19 vaccine. This has put our children back in their best learning environment (physical classrooms) and many of the hardest hit service industries have begun to emerge from the “pandemic winter”. The warmer weather promises renewed support for restaurants and their employees.

At the same time, I am concerned that opposition to receiving a life-changing vaccine continues. I found it worrying that nearly 40 percent of nursing home workers did not receive the vaccine. The benefit of vaccinating the elderly is now the reopening of visits to loved ones who have been isolated for almost a year. After a long dry spell, we are now seeing a surge in travel, another industry devastated by Covid-19.

All of these lifestyle resumption steps can spread the infection. I encourage you to be diligent. Follow the most secure protocols on the go. Covid-19 is still very much anchored in our world. It is important to note that new variants continue to emerge and still require sacrifices.

It has been almost a month since we completed Special Session I 2021, which followed a 30-day regular session of the General Assembly. During those 46 days we were operating outside the Capitol, making it a year where we did not do business as we have before.

Despite the restrictions on the introduction of bills, over 900 bills bypassed both chambers. The governor has reviewed these measures and will complete his work by midnight March 31st. In my opinion, the main pieces of legislation focused on rebuilding our economy, reforming the criminal justice system and educating the public. To this end, we have abolished the death penalty; Creating educational opportunities for low and middle income people with the G3 (Qualify, Find Work, Give Back) program; and prioritized getting children back to school. We have also made large investments to bring broadband to underserved areas in Virginia. That includes Northern Virginia. As previously reported, I raised $ 10 million for the City of Falls Church / VT initiative.

The good news that additional federal funding is coming to Virginia gives us another reason to be called back to the special session. We have also taken steps to expand the appeals court. The initiative provides for the appointment of six more judges. Filling these seats and balancing our budget will likely be the subject of the next special session. No date has been set yet, but it is widely believed that we will meet again in early summer.

Governor Northam and Secretary of Transportation Shannon Valentine were accompanied by US Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg in Alexandria to announce big news for the Virginia railroad. We have signed agreements with Amtrak, CSX, and Virginia Railway Express, and started a $ 3.7 billion investment to expand and improve the Virginia passenger, commuter, and freight railroad and a vital link in America’s national Establish a rail network between the north-east and south-east corridors. This is important and promises to facilitate commuting, move goods efficiently, reduce pollution and ease the burden on rail workers.

It is quite disturbing to take note of actions by the governor of Georgia that are deliberately trying to suppress voter turnout. Just like the pandemic, it will take the country some time to deviate from the previous government. In Virginia we decided to expand the electorate and give them access to voting. In my opinion, the only fraud in the 2020 presidential election was caused by false allegations made by the loser.

Delgado, LSU-Alexandria for Facilitating Transfer for Business Students – New Orleans CityBusiness

Louisiana State University of Alexandria and Delgado Community College in New Orleans have signed a memorandum of understanding to facilitate student transfers.

The “2 + 2 Business Program” is designed to support students who transfer to LSUA and have obtained an Associate of Science degree in Business Administration from Delgado.

Those who meet the LSUA’s admission requirements can transfer 60 credit hours of work and enroll in the College of Business’s Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program, a press release said.

The LSUA’s business degree offers students the opportunity to focus on entrepreneurship, financial analysis, information systems, international business, management and marketing.

A concentration is agribusiness is expected to be available in the fall of 2021, according to the press release.

Richmond Cops: W. Greenwich Teen sells THC vape pens to child

RICHMOND – A West Greenwich teenage boy faces charges after Richmond police allege they found 33 THC cartridges and nearly $ 800 in his car while a traffic obstruction was on March 11th.

Michael J. Hazelwood, 18, 439 Plain Meeting House Road, had just delivered two psychoactive vape cartridges to a 13 year old when he was stopped. This comes from a notice from the Richmond Police Chief Elwood M. Johnson, Jr.

After the traffic obstruction at 7:30 pm, Hazelwood was booked at the police station and released on summons to appear in the 4th District Court. He was charged with possession with intent to supply a List 1 drug and possession of marijuana.

City of Arlington: Complete the 2021 Arlington Consumer Survey

The Task Force to Restore Economic Development in Arlington is asking residents to take the Arlington Consumer Survey 2021. The survey, which is expected to take no more than five minutes, will help the city identify and support your needs as a promoter of our business community. The answers will also help local businesses understand what measures can be taken to increase consumer safety and comfort as the recovery from COVID-19 proceeds. This year’s survey focuses on arts and cultural organizations, public events, and supporting the needs of businesses to meet the demands of their customers.

When it comes to shopping and dining in Arlington during the reopening process, consumer decision making is influenced by personal circumstances such as the health, the health of the people they live with, and whether they have already been vaccinated, or how soon. The City of Arlington created the Arlington Consumer Survey 2021 to better understand current and likely consumer attitudes towards al fresco dining and other forms of social engagement. The Arlington Economic Development Recovery Task Force will analyze the responses to key trends shared with our local business owners to better understand consumer shopping needs and concerns and identify opportunities for innovation. An earlier survey was published by the task force in June 2021. The responses to this helped create public parklets, optimize outdoor restaurants, and exercise in parks for local gyms and outdoor yoga studios.

The Arlington Economic Development Recovery Task Force is comprised of representatives from the city and the Arlington business and nonprofit communities. Representatives from the Department of Health and Human Services, the Selection Committee, the Department of Parks and Recreation, the City Administrator’s Office, the Arlington Redevelopment Board, and the Department of Planning and Community Development are included. These city officials and their boards of directors and committees set, create, and implement policies and regulations to fuel and revitalize our city’s economic recovery. The role of Arlington business owners, nonprofit executives, property owners, bank executives, and other members of the task force is to provide guidance to the city on creating Arlington policies and procedures that meet real needs and concerns about corporate health and safety take into account allowed to increase their capacity. The contributions of the members of this task force will also influence the longer term economic recovery of the city to ensure the long term health and stability of our business districts.

Pharrell Williams mourns his cousin who was killed by police in the Virginia Beach shootings

Pharrell Williams mourns his cousin Donovon Lynch after he was tragically killed by police during the Virginia Beach shootings.

The 25-year-old was shot dead by a police officer in the third of three shootings that took place in the Virginia Beach resort area last Friday night.

Virginia Beach police claim Lynch “was carrying a pistol at the time of the shooting,” although it is unknown what led to the shooting. Deshayla E. Harris, actress of the Bad Girls Club, was shot during the second shoot of the night and is considered an innocent bystander.

Pharrell took his Instagram on Monday March 29th to pay tribute to his late cousin.

“The loss of these lives is an immeasurable tragedy. My cousin Donovon was killed during the shooting. He was a shining light and someone who always appeared for others. It is important that my family and the families of other victims receive the transparency, honesty, and justice they deserve. Virginia Beach is the epitome of hope and tenacity, and as a community we will come out and come out stronger, ”he wrote in the Post.

Richmond councilor recovers from COVID while fourth month pregnant Richmond Local News

Richmond councilor Stephanie Lynch is recovering after testing positive for COVID-19 on Monday.

Lynch, who is four months pregnant, said she was tested last week after developing what she originally thought was seasonal allergies. She said her condition worsened over the weekend and had trouble breathing normally, but had felt better in the past few days.

“Sore throat, eye irritation, some constipation; no fever or loss of taste and smell. I thought it was allergy symptoms made worse by my pregnancy,” she said in an interview on Thursday. “Until Saturday, I couldn’t get up and do normal household activities without sitting down again. I was out of breath.”

The 5th district councilor said she was scheduled for a 20-week ultrasound and her vaccine was shot down this week. She said she waited a few weeks after her pregnancy to plan her shot. She said she asked her doctors about the next steps to ensure the health of her expected daughter.

“I was a nerve ball,” she said.

The Centers for Disease and Control Prevention say pregnant people who become infected with COVID-19 are at higher risk of serious illness and poor pregnancy outcomes. The agency says there is limited information on the safety of vaccines for pregnant people, although experts believe it doesn’t pose any specific risks.

James Madison Looking for Answers at Quarterback

It’s not often a top-ranked, unbeaten team that is undecided in such an important position. James Madison’s head coach Curt Cignetti hasn’t announced who will start at the quarterback and this doesn’t seem like a trick.

Here’s the rundown for the Dukes when it comes to QB1. Cole Johnson lost the starting job to Junior Gage Maloney. The program was then hit hard by COVID-19 and two games were postponed.

When they returned to William & Mary, Maloney was not available and Johnson was exceptional. He finished 16 for 22 for 220 yards and a touchdown. With both quarterbacks now available, the coach can’t seem to decide who deserves the gig.

Anyone who gets the job at quarterback has a full stable of running backs to lean on. JMU defeated William & Mary 38-10, despite missing out on running back Perci Agyei-Obese and his two substitutes Latrele Palmer and Soloman Vanhorse. All three defenders are expected to play this weekend which is good news for the Dukes.

Once Cignetti has decided on the staff, he can use the full game book with the team’s COVID-19 problems in the rearview mirror.

Richmond loves to play soccer. For quarterback Joe Mancuso, who has been more than usable this season, that’s no disrepute. He has completed 53 of 88 passes for 581 passes, six touchdowns and no interceptions.
