Alexandria restaurants offer Cinco de Mayo specials

It’s hard to believe May is here when April seemed like yesterday. May brings warmer weather, graduations, and apparently lots of margaritas. Cinco De Mayo is celebrating the anniversary of the Battle of Puebla, as well as a celebration of Mexican heritage, contrary to what is believed to be Mexico’s version of July 4th.

Compared to that time last year, there are plenty of restaurants where diners can celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

It wouldn’t be a vacation without tequila … or, in this case, a margarita. “The Virtue Margarita”, Hornitos Plata Tequila, Lime Juice, Triple Sec, Agave, Habanero Bitters, at Virtue Feed and Grain and Don Tacos “Pineapple Chili Margarita”, Pineapple and Chile de Arbol-infused Hornitos Plata Tequila, Lime Juice and Agave Nectar are just a few Examples of places that “shake things up” with their special margaritas.

Captain Gregory’s offers its “Spring Break” cocktail series, which highlights the complexity of tequilas and some rum drinks. They also offer a Del Maguey mezcal tasting, select beers, and small plates like sweet plantains and shishito peppers.

One of the best dishes on the menu that goes with tequila is tacos. Tequila & Taco is counting down to Cinco de Mayo starting May 2nd with USD 4 Micheladas and USD 12 T&T Bloody Marys. On May 3rd, guests will receive a free queso with every order. May 4th, $ 4 frozen margaritas are available; and on May 5th, Tequila & Taco will be open at 9am to start the partying.

Chop Shop Taco is doing slightly different things this year where it is only allowed to dine on the terrace and indoors by prior reservation. If you want tacos to go to Cinco de Mayo, guests must pre-order by 8pm on May 4th. They’ll also showcase their infamous Gasolina Margarita with homemade Cointreau and freshly squeezed limes.

For something really interesting, the Energy Club in Shirlington starts Cinco de MaYOGA, an outdoor yoga practice with DJ Thunder Bunny and a margarita afterwards.

Enjoy!
