ARLINGTON, Va. (WDVM) – Arlington Public Schools introduced a universal mask mandate for the start of school this fall.

In a note to parents on Friday morning, Superintendent Dr. Francisco Durán that masks are required for all students, staff and visitors regardless of their vaccination status.

Masks are compulsory in buildings and on school buses, but can be removed when eating, during breaks and during other outdoor activities.

The school principal shared a video message saying that school staff are ready to welcome students back to the classrooms with these protocols.

“As the summer school is coming to an end, we are delighted to be able to welcome all of our teachers, our assistants and, above all, our students back to full-time and face-to-face classes on August 30,” said Durán.

Durán says schools will continue to review masking practices and other safety measures to meet national and local recommendations.
