Richmond flying squirrelThe Richmond Flying Squirrels collected four unanswered questions, but fell 6-4 to Bowie Baysox in the series finale on Sunday evening at the Diamond.

The Flying Squirrels (39-39) hit .500 for the first time since May 5, losing five of the series’ six games against the Baysox (46-30).

In the first inning with the runners in first and third places for Bowie, Adley Rutschman slipped into a double game, but Richie Martin was able to score from third place and bring the Baysox 1-0 lead.

Bowie extended the lead in the second inning with an RBI single from Cadyn Grenier against Richmond starter Raffi VizcaĆno to 2-0 (loss, 2-2).

The Baysox added four runs in the third inning to extend their lead to 6-0. After Mac Marshall allowed two leadoff runners, Rutschman hit an RBI single and Seth Mejias-Brean did a bases-loaded walk. Johnny Rizer followed with an RBI single and Cadyn Grenier topped the scoring with a base-loaded walk. Joey Marciano stranded the loaded bases when he entered with an out, resulting in a strikeout and flyout.

Jacob Heyward broke the shutout when he started a home run on the left field in the sixth solo. After David Villar and Frankie Tostado played back-to-back singles, Will Wilson scored a brace to bring Villar home from second and reduce the gap to 6-2.

In the seventh inning, Sandro Fabian drove a lead-off solo home run to close the gap to 6-3. For Fabian it was the ninth home run of the season.

The Flying Squirrels crossed a run for the third inning in a row and made 6-4 in the seventh inning. With bases loaded, Vince Fernandez lifted a sacrificial flight to the right that brought Villar home from third place.

Felix Bautista (Save, 3) kept the Flying Squirrels goalless in the lower third and knocked out three clubs.

VizcaĆno started with 2.0 innings, allowing four hits and two runs with two strikeouts. Ronnie Williams put together a season high of 4.0 scoreless innings in relief with two allowed hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

Cody Sedlock (win, 4-2) allowed two runs out of six hits with six strikeouts in his start for the Baysox.

Villar went 3 for 4 in the game with two runs at the end of the series.
