Goochland County-based used car dealer CarMax Inc. announced Tuesday that it plans to add about 275 jobs in the Richmond area by the end of this year.

The hiring is part of a larger plan to create around 3,700 jobs in the company’s operations across the country this year. (CarMax is building a new store in Roanoke that is expected to open later this year.)

Jobs that the company identifies as in high demand include auto technicians and service workers, including detailers, painters, and others. The company is seeking to fill approximately 1,400 positions nationwide in these areas, ranging from $ 19 an hour to $ 53 an hour. Salary varies by location based on an employee’s experience, the company said.

The company said it also plans to fill more than 700 customer service centers and managerial positions across its operations. This includes about 100 jobs in the Richmond area.

These jobs pay $ 18 to $ 20 an hour plus a monthly bonus. Some locations offer sign-up bonuses of up to $ 2,000 and an additional $ 1,500 bonus for bilingual employees. The company is also recruiting approximately 40 corporate and 20 retail positions in the Richmond area.
