Charleston, South Carolina-based real estate development company The Beach Co. announced Tuesday that it broke ground on a 1.65-acre mixed-use development in Richmond called Tidewater, which is expected to be completed in the spring of 2023.

The six-story project is located in the Manchester borough on Semmes Ave. 700 and will have approximately 266,854 square meters of housing, approximately 8,000 square meters of convenience space and 2,603 square meters of commercial space on the ground floor. The development will include 221 apartments with one- and two-room floor plans.

“Richmond’s historic architecture, beautiful weather, serene green spaces and vibrant cultural scene are attracting a growing number of local residents and employees who want to make this city their home,” said Tim Cotter, Development Director of The Beach Co., in a statement. “Tidewater’s location in the heart of Manchester offers access to work and a good balance between the area’s cafes, inns and independent art studios and entertainment, all of which are a stone’s throw from the city center.”

Atlantic Union Bank is providing construction finance to Tidewater. The Beach Co. did not disclose financial details. The Beach Co. partners are Richmond-based Walter Parks Architects and engineering firm Timmons Group, and general contractor Clancy & Theys Construction Co., based in Newport News.
