Dangerous Driving in East Arlington – 104.5 WOKV

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – People who live on Matthew Unger Drive in East Arlington, Action News alerted Jax of frustrations over reckless driving.

It happens near where 15-year-old Raiden Kelly was killed on the way to his bus stop in 2016. The teenager was hit by a car.

People who live in the area said they were frustrated with speeders. Action News Jax also found skid marks on the road and deep marks in the grass near the road.

“It’s hard because you can see so many people are inconsiderate and don’t care,” said Erica Brown, Kelly’s mother.

Brown still lives in the neighborhood and she feels more needs to be done to slow the pace down.

“Everyone is in such a hurry; It’s 30 miles an hour. The families of the people, the children of the people, their pets, who live here, “said Brown.

Action News Jax contacted the City of Jacksonville and learned that no traffic studies were being conducted on Matthew Unger Drive.

Two crashes have been reported since 2018.

JSO stated that there is no record of the number of traffic quotes issued over the past three years. The city conducted light polls after Kelly’s death.

A city spokesman said a public works team checked the area itself after Action News contacted Jax, but would not repair any damage as it was cosmetic.

Kelly’s mom just wants the people driving the neighborhood to be more attentive.

“We don’t want to see anyone … if there is something we can do to keep someone else’s child from suffering the same fate,” Brown said.

JSO said there were plans to send out a patrol car to monitor any speeders.
