I attended a very disturbing meeting of the Fairfax County School Board last night. The anti-LGBTQ and anti-CRT people were in place. They had a large “call back” table and would gather and shout at the passing traffic. Inside, they defiantly refused to wear masks. When asked, they shouted: “You are not my boss”. They ignored the security guards trying to encourage them to put on masks.
They yelled and scolded the school board, calling them communists, terrorist sympathizers, real nonsense – but hurtful.
We have to find a way to express ideas but not to abuse them. It’s crippling to just watch, let alone be the subject of it. You blew over library books again.
I don’t understand how they can self-righteously and smugly demand that parents, not educators, decide what is taught in schools. What does that mean anyway? “Parents” are not a monolithic entity. Parents have very different views on the important issues of our time. Educators are trained to see through this (and listen to different points of view) and determine which curriculum will lead to healthy, successful citizens and adults.
In all honesty, some parents, many parents, don’t qualify for it. We have to stop being defensive and leave education to educators. We get input. You make decisions. This is how the government works. If you don’t like the decisions, don’t scold, scream or bother you. You get involved and then vote them out if you can.
What a sick experience for children to have. And also who will run for office if you are exposed to this abuse day in and day out.
No healthy democratic system. This appears to be part of a national far-right strategy to disrupt school authorities that are largely ignored by the general public and then move them up the political chain.
