Memorial ceremony for COVID-19 victims on June 9th

The Northern Virginia Regional Committee’s COVID-19 Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 9 at 6 p.m. on the Ellipse of the Fairfax County Government Center. The ceremony will honor and remember all those lost in the 13 jurisdictions that make up the Regional Commission. The event will be broadcast live on Fairfax County Government Channel 16 and on the NVRC’s Facebook page.

“We Northern Virginia have worked together to contain the tide of the coronavirus pandemic, but our losses are substantial,” noted David Tarter, chairman of the NVRC and mayor of the City of Falls Church. “We come together to mourn and remember more than 2,350 of our friends, relatives and neighbors who have been lost to this terrible disease.”

The event will host leaders from across the region to address the impact of COVID-19 on Northern Virginia. The ceremony will culminate with a “final alarm” bell service.

NVRC is a regional council of 13 member wards located in the suburbs of Washington, DC, Northern Virginia. These include the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William; the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas, and Manassas Park; and the cities of Dumfries, Herndon, Leesburg and Vienna.
