Richmond police find the missing 18-year-old safe

RICHMOND, VA. (WRIC) – Kayla Whetzel, 18, was found after she went missing on Tuesday March 23rd. The Richmond Police Department says Whetzel is safely located in a nearby location.

“This was a team effort to find Ms. Whetzel,” said reigning Major Rick Edwards. The RPD thanked the public, media, officials, detectives, and others who helped find the young woman.

Police announced her disappearance on Thursday. RPD announced that Whetzel had an illness and had no necessary medication. Police said they did not know the Richmond area and were concerned about their safety. They feared she would not find a way to get help.

At a press conference on Thursday, the police released further details about Wetzel’s disappearance. She reported the group’s house where she lived as missing on Tuesday afternoon. The group’s home is in one of the surrounding areas of Richmond. The police couldn’t tell which one.
