West Central Area had to work for it, but the Knights won a 3-2 Pheasant Conference win over Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley (6-4, 2-1 Pheasant) on Thursday.

WCA (11-1, 3-1 Pheasant) won the final set 19-17. That ended a rally 2-0 down after CGB won the first two sets by 25:19 and 25:20. The Knights took sets three and four, 25-17 and 25-21.

“It seemed like the team was intimidated by CGB underdog Jessica Moberg,” said Knights head coach Melissa Foslien. “We knew we had to touch their attacks to stay with them. It took us until the third set to calm down, and in the fourth set Halle Foslien had some key hits and Whitney Westrom did a good job in getting us out of that set. “

The fifth set was tied 13-13. Mya Foslien eventually won it for WCA with an ace serve.

“Kaitlyn Hansen stood out as a great back row for me tonight,” said coach Foslien. “She passed the serve very well. I really don’t feel like we did our best tonight. We looked tense and nervous. We had some mistakes in our thinking that we have to reduce over the course of the season. It is important that we keep fighting our way through, and we have learned that we have to come together as a team in order to reach the goal and to catch up after mistakes. “
