The Richmond Observer – East Rockingham suspect turns himself in

ROCKINGHAM – One of two men charged in an afternoon shooting in a grocery store is now on remand.

Shaquan Hykeem Chambers, 23, of Fifth Street Safie, turned himself in on Monday, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Records show it was booked into the Richmond County Jail at 4:42 p.m. on June 28, where it is held under a $ 1 million secured bond.

According to the sheriff’s office, a proxy was stopped at around 5:40 p.m. on June 18 at Henna Corner, at the intersection of Mill Road and Long Drive.

The deputy quickly discovered that a shooting had just taken place in the parking lot and that one person was injured, according to investigators. The victim was treated and sent to a local hospital.

A white car was rolled back and several pieces of evidence were seen in the parking lot.

Chambers and 19-year-old Jishen Shyheim Dumas of Laurel Hill were charged with the shooting.

Chambers is charged with attempted first degree murder, armed terror of the public, and firing a gun into an occupied vehicle.

Investigators say Dumas drove a red four-door Kia that had damage to the right front of the vehicle and a missing rear bumper.

The case is still being investigated and MPs are still working to identify a third person in the vehicle.

Anyone with information on Dumas’s whereabouts is encouraged to call 911 or Richmond County Crime Stoppers at 910-997-5454.

Records from the NC Department of Public Safety show Chambers was convicted of negligent theft in 2015 in Wake County.

Any defendant who is charged with a criminal offense is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
