JUST IN: Power outages across Alexandria when high winds hit the city ALXnow

Several thousand Alexandrians are currently without electricity due to a “wind wall”.

According to Dominion Energy, 2,915 customers in Arlandria are without electricity.

There are other scattered islands of power outage across town, including 1,349 customers in Taylor Run with no power. In the West End, 857 customers near John Adams Elementary School are without power.

There is still no indication of when power might be restored.

The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has one

* Until 515 p.m. EDT.

* At 438 a.m.CET, there were severe thunderstorms along a line that stretched from Montgomery Village to near Chantilly on Warrenton, moving east at 65 miles per hour.

DANGER … gusts of wind at 60 miles per hour.

IMPACT… Some trees and large branches fall when the wind is damaging. Doing so could injure people outdoors, as well as damage homes and vehicles. Roads can be blocked by fallen trees. Localized power outages are possible. Unsecured light objects can become projectiles.

* Affected locations include … Arlington, Alexandria, Germantown, Centerville, Waldorf, Dale City, Rockville, Bethesda, Gaithersburg, Reston, Bowie, Severn, Annandale, Clinton, Olney, Springfield, College Park, Crofton, South Riding, and Fort Washington .
