VMI were 4-3 ahead in the sixth inning, but Richmond claimed an 8-4 win in a non-conference game from Gray-Minor Stadium Tuesday night.
The Spiders were leading 3-0 before the Keydets scored four hits at the end of fourth place. Trey Morgan walked away with a double and Will Knight followed for a walk. Zac Morris left to load the bases with an out and JT Inskeep also left to score the first run. A Richmond mistake brought home a second run and Cody Warner doubled in to bring Inskeep and Morris home and give VMI the lead.
Richmond scored two in the sixth to take the lead again, adding one in the seventh and two in the eighth.
Inskeep and Morgan each finished with a hit and a walk.
Ryan Huffman tossed two scoreless innings of relief and Sam Ewald tossed a perfect inning from the bullpen.
Anthony Forte went 2-4 with a home run and three RBIs for Richmond (7-4). Jordan Schulefand clinched the win by working 5 2/3 innings of relief, allowing only one hit, a walk and a well-deserved run.
The Keydets (5-12) are hosting the UNCG in a series of the Southern Conference this weekend. The teams play a single game on Friday at 4 p.m. and a double header from Saturday at 1 p.m.
