HS Football Leaderboard (Week 5): Port Richmond moves up and MSIT moves down

COVID-19 cancellations and other postponements have kept little movement in the island’s high school football rankings in the past two weeks.

Last weekend, five more games with Icelandic squads were dropped from the schedule, making it difficult for the teams to gain ground or relegate in the rankings.

In this week’s leaderboard, Port Richmond and McKee / Staten Island Tech have swapped places.

Here are the latest SILive.com/Advance-Rankings:

No. 11 Petrides (2-1): The Panthers, who stay at No. 11, won, but never took the field as they took the forfeited victory over Grand Street, which no team was able to field. Dave Olah’s club will try again this week when he travels to Franklin K. Lane (1-2) in Queens for a PSAL Cup Conference game on Saturday.

10) Susan Wagner (0-4): The Falcons stayed in 10th place after missing Erasmus last week due to COVID-19 issues. It was the second straight week that the club had been surrendered by head coach Arthur Newcombe. The Falcons will play in a PSAL City Conference game in Tottenville on Friday.

9) McKee / Staten Island Tech (2-1): The Seagulls suffered their first defeat – an 8-0 decision against Eagle Academy III – in three attempts and dropped one notch in the ranking. Head coach Chris App Jr.’s club will play in Fort Hamilton without a win on Saturday (0: 3).

8) Port Richmond (2-1): The Raiders improved with a 20-0 PSAL Bowl win over Lafayette, PR head coach Lou Vesce’s alma mater. It was the second shutout in a row by the PR defense. PR plays New Dorp for Curtis on Saturday.

7) St. Peter’s (1-4): The Eagles dropped a 42-8 CHSFL home decision on St. Anthony’s Sunday but showed no movement in the ranking. Head coach Mark DeCristoforo’s club welcomes Fordham Prep (2-2) on Saturday.

6) New Dorp (3-0): The Central Cougars stayed in 6th place after a lost win over Tilden. Head coach Brian Murphy’s club will face Port Richmond in Curtis on Saturday.

5) St. Joseph by-the-Sea (2-3): The Vikings remain in the ranking despite their 27-14 CHSFL win at Fordham Prep on Friday evening. Sea head coach Joe Goerge’s club will play against Xavier (0-4) at the Aviator Sports Complex on Saturday night.

4) Moore (2-1): The Mavericks held their fourth place by returning to winning ways last week with a 28-14 CHSFL win over Xavier. Head coach Nick Giannatasio’s team will host the St. Francis Prep (1-3) on Saturday.

3) Tottenville (4-1): The Pirates recorded a lost win against Lincoln to stay in third place. Head coach Brian Neville’s team welcomes Susan Wagner on Friday.

2) Monsignor Farrell (3-1): The Lions finished second with a defensive-oriented 16-8 win over Cardinal Hayes in the CHSFL. It took Farrell five goal-line stands to hit Hayes back. Head coach Tony Garofalo’s troops receive Chaminade (2-2) on Friday at 7 p.m. Click here to buy your Farrell ticket for Friday’s game.

1) Curtis (3-0): Head coach Pete Gambardella’s side stayed at the top of the rankings despite not having played last weekend when Canarsie retired from the game for reasons unknown. Curtis receives South Shore (1-3) Friday at 4:00 p.m. South Shore’s only win came from a loss.
